The Club began in 1975 as a Parks and Recreation summer program under the leadership of Kari Cullen. In 1987 a search began for a facility and after thousands of hours of work and many presentations, the South Delta Recreation Center asked the DGS to join them in their expansion. DGS continued to grow and soon realized that a facility was needed. In 1981, Delta Gymnastics Club moved from South Delta Secondary School to the South Delta Recreation Center. In 1978, the program was expanded and began to operate year round. In 1977, due to the increasing skill level of the gymnasts and an interest in the community, Parks and Recreation suggested that DGS become independent from the municipality and administer its own programs with the help of parents. The original intention of the program was to introduce gymnastics to the residents of Ladner and Tsawwassen. Delta Gymnastics Society moved into the new facility at the Recreation Center in August of 1993.
